This song was originally created as a song of encouragement for a person who submitted to “a song for you”. however, shortly after the song was written, at the start of the pandemic, I suddenly became the person who needed that exact encouragement. My father was battling cancer & a spinal cord injury. Fighting alongside him through that, I saw him mistreated medically & personally. I was filled with rage from not seeing him get the care he deserved over and over again. my energy as a person began to shift. the anger inside of me was becoming a compass with which I began to navigate my everyday life. housing all that anger inside while still going through the very thing that was causing it, started taking a toll on my mental and physical health. in the midst of it all, my dad told me that though what was happening to him was not right, each person responsible deserved forgiveness. He reminded me that in order for me to protect my own health, forgiveness would be the key. Now, with my dad’s passing, I honor his legacy of forgiveness by going on my own journey to forgive. I’d like to invite anyone who is willing to go through this process for themselves to join me.
