The Story Behind The Song
One Sunday during worship service I started hearing a melody with these words
“I can be your light no more darkness”
This melody was not in the same key or style as the song that was being sang at the time. A few minutes went by and the melody got louder with the next line added,
“I can be your one I can be your friend”
As The song playing in mind began to reach the same volume as the one playing in reality, I got up to walk into the bathroom. More lines came and I sang everything I heard. I didn’t know it at the time but, my heart was like those of the church in LaodicEa, This is What God wrote to them:
“I know all the things you do, that you are neither hot nor cold. I wish that you were one or the other! But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth! You say, ‘I am rich. I have everything I want. I don’t need a thing!’ And you don’t realize that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked.” Revelation 3:15-17
Often times we think of Luke warm, as going to church but still engaging in “major sin” but in reality, all you have to be is prideful.
“So I advise you to buy gold from me—gold that has been purified by fire. Then you will be rich. Also buy white garments from me so you will not be shamed by your nakedness, and ointment for your eyes so you will be able to see. I correct and discipline everyone I love. So be diligent and turn from your indifference.”
Revelation 3:18-19 NLT
Like the church of Laodicea, God was ministering to me that he wanted to be so much more in my life than what i was allowing him to be.
I have come to realize that we over indulge in the things of this world because we are deficient in Jesus. We are perpetually hungry and trying to fill ourselves up with bite size gods. There is no lower case god that can provide enough substance for what our souls long for, but He is the Bread of Life! When we partake of him daily we will be filled.
